Another successful festival passes by, very well attended with two very different headline acts. Toy made a great load of psychedelic noise, and Toploader were surprisingly (in my book, anyway) good. Most of the local bands did themselves justice, with Bud Sugar, The Coaves and Hillbilly Troupe impressing. But topping the lot for me was The Talks, whose ska sound was infectiously brilliant. Better still, they're doing a gig with another riotous band, Counting Coins, on November 7th at Welly. One for Rich and Ian, possibly? Just seen the above post. I'll have to let you know. It sounds like something I'd be up for but I'm sure there's something else happening that day as there's a lot happening end of October / November.

Sweet. Got my tickets from Chinese Laundry, and the chaps there are going as well, in their book it's "gig of the year". Scenes.

Certainly did. Not a bad gig, let down by a no show from Mighty and the Moon and sound issues. Danny Landau was pretty good, mind.

Paul did mention it. They're a tight unit, it must be said.

Dudes! I've been tipped the wink about a Stiff Little Fingers gig at Welly on Dec 2, me dad's going, and others. Is it worth it? I can't say I've ever really heard anything of theirs.........

A great Northern Irish punk band in their day...Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster were the early classic singles and the album Inflammable Material. Their first ever gig in Hull was at City Hall in '79 but I couldn't go coz I had chicken pox, aged 17. And Bruce Foxton later played bass for them. That concludes my SLF knowledge.

The Talks gig lineup has now been added to, with the inclusion of Bud Sugar. A good night just got even better in my book.

Just a small reminder about Nov 7 if anyone's still interested. Looking ahead, a most interesting looking gig is the comedian Charlie Chuck supported by Hillbilly Troupe at Pave on Nov 30. No, me neither.
Point of order. In the latest issue of Ten Foot City, Mr Farrow expresses his excitement at attending the Focus gig at Fruit on Nov 21, the same night as the opening night of Quiet Riot (the Beverley alternative), at which he and Mr Lofts have been booked to play. Hmmmmmm.............

I saw the Hillbillies / Charlie Chuck gig at Pave advertised. Looks really er really unorthodox. My missus saw chuck about ten years ago. Apparently almost scared her to death. I'm taking her again this time. Maybe he'll try harder this time.
So, as well as those things mention and Ben Watt on Saturday there's stacks of other 'interesting' stuff coming up. Middle Child Theatre who are really excellent have a new 'musical' production at Fruit from 11/11 out. The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown are at Hessle (8/11) - listen to his latest album he is still crazy. Roxy Musique are at Fruit (27/11) - Obviously a covers band, but anyone even trying to do Roxy should be interested in all sorts of ways. Woody Woodmansey has put a band together to do his Bowie songs up to '73, Steve Harley is at at City Hall and Jefferson Airplane / Starship at Fruit both in February, Sleaford Mods (Punk? Rap? Ska? Whatever!) at Fruit in March. I'm sure there's also other stuff I've forgotten to note down on my events calendar. If anyone fancies accompanying me to any of the above let me know. To be honest I'm not sure how many of those gigs I'll get to given time and money.
There's also Royal Blood at Brid in March which I reckon will sell out quite quick but people like Long Haired Tony is interested so perhaps we could get a few of us there.
Also, I've got two freebies for the Jersey Boys on 12th November not normally RJ type stuff but should be good if anyone wants my spare.
Finally, as always, my meanderings for TenFoot City were submitted a couple of months ago. This was long before any sort of date was muted for Quiet Riot so Focus looked a good Friday out if only for Nostalgia (For an age yet to come!) reasons. Whilst on the subject of Quiet Riot is anyone definitely wanting tickets. We are trying to get some freebies / concessions. I don't know if we'll et them but if you're wanting a ticket we may get you in free /cheap. Let us know.
Thanks for reading through all that. I didn't mean to blether on but anyone out there interested in any of the above....

I'm definitely wanting any form of cheap/free entry for Quiet Riot if you can sort it.

It's apparently going to be £5 on the door. I think we can get regular RJ people in for £3 if we know how many in advance. I'll let you know tomorrow...provided I recognise you in your Hallowe'een get up!
